BIO ON 1ST PLACE WINNER SUSANNE BELCHER:

SUSANNE BELCHER is a Los Angeles-based native Californian and award-winning semi-abstract mixed media artist and photographer. Her innate ability to distill images through layers of reduction and compilation in mixed media, combined with her penchant for exploring new mediums, extended her visual language and provided a natural transition to digital photography.

Susanne’s work in both mixed media and photography continues to reflect her background in psychology, interest in architecture, use of symbolism, the unusual, love of nature and things spiritual. Her images, always compelling, minimal and complex, retain a consistent emotional narrative component that is unique, sophisticated, and often surreal and mysterious.

Susanne, a former health care professional, has a doctorate in Psychology, and is an active member of Women Painters West, Thousand Oaks Art Assoc., California Artist League, Valley Watercolor Society, and sits on the Board of the Fine Arts Club of Pasadena and Collage Artists of America. She has exhibited in Germany, galleries and venues throughout Southern California in both solo and group exhibitions since 1991. She was a founding partner and represented artist of the former Abbot Kinney Art Gallery (Venice, CA), coauthor of an art/nature essay book “Looking for 527” about a Yellowstone Wolf killed in the first Montana wolf hunt (available on Amazon.com), and is a Represented Artist of the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art (LACDA). Her work is held in both private and corporate collections throughout the United States and Europe.
