BIO ON 1ST PLACE WINNER MAJA BOROWICZ:

“I perceive reality through constant changes, breakdown, human tragedies, catastrophes and wars. My reality is all about people and things that appear in my life and last only for a moment before coming down to memories. The specifics of time and the reality that surround me saturate my works. But my real intention is to show the emotions that help us endure – the feelings of love, hope and longing.”

Maja Borowicz was born in Pruszkow near Warsaw. She studied at the Faculty of Landscape Architecture in Warsaw In the years 2002 - 2007. She developed her painting skills independently from an early age and has been working for the film industry for many years.

Maja is a very versatile artist reaching for various ways of artistic expression. She creates works using digital, traditional oil painting and audiovisual techniques. Her works can be categorized as magical realism or surrealism. The world of Maja Borowicz on the one hand is firmly rooted in reality and from the other she is opening the event exceeding experience. In this way, the paintings are saturated with existential symbolism of magical realism involving the innermost and the most profound experiences of human existence.
