BIO ON 1ST PLACE WINNER JESSICA ZOU:

Jessica Zou is a 17 year-old student artist living in San Diego, California. She has been studying fine art since elementary school and her work has been recognized at multiple local and national competitions throughout middle and high school.

Jessica’s niche lies in both drawing with graphite or charcoal and painting with acrylic. Her favorite subjects include flowers, animals, and human figures. She strives to capture the energy and liveliness she sees in animals and plants, and her figure drawings often reflect the ambience as well as story she sees in the people of society.

In addition to art creation, Jessica has also been deeply involved in the arena of science and technology; she enjoys building engineering contraptions and has recently delved into architecture design and creating kinetic architecture model.

Though Jessica does not yet know where her future in art lies, she is taking her time to branch out and explore different parts of the art world, including design art, engineering art, and any other form of interdisciplinary art.

Three of Jessica’s artworks won 2016 American Art Awards; her graphite piece “Story Behind” won 1st place in CATEGORY 28. ORIENTAL SUBJECT, her charcoal piece “Masquerade” won 5th place in CATEGORY 4. CHARCOAL/INK/PENCIL HUMAN FIGURE(S), and her Acrylic piece “Stand Out” won 6th place in CATEGORY 16.
