Proposing marriage requires a huge leap of faith for most couples, but a Brazilian couple is taking that big step in hopes of being declared the “world’s smallest couple.”

For the past eight years, Paulo Gabriel da Silva Barros, of Itapeva, has been dating Katyucia Hoshino.

The two have a lot in common, including that they both have dwarfism. Barros, 30, is 34.8 inches tall while Hoshino, 26, is slightly taller at 35.2 inches.

The couple also share the dream of being declared the “world’s smallest couple” by Guinness World Records.

Height-wise, they beat out current record holders Douglas Maistre Breger da Silva and Claudia Pereira Rocha of Curitiba, Brazil, who are 35 inches and 36 inches respectively.

But Barros and Hoshino can’t officially apply for consideration unless they are hitched.

Previously, Hoshino has taken a “wait and see” approach towards marriage, but Barros can’t wait any longer, according to Barcroft TV.

He recently gathered some family and friends at a sushi restaurant and tried to hook his sweetie for life.

“As everyone knows, we’ve been together for eight years between living together and dating,” he said, according to the outlet. “And we haven’t got married yet. And since you are friends that have accompanied our journey for a long time, I wanted to share this with you and ask her to marry me.”

As you can see in the video above, Hoshino was not sure at first if the offer was real.

“Are you serious, babe? Are you okay? Do you have a fever?” she asks.

The couple are now planning a big wedding, after which they will submit their application to Guinness for consideration.
