Worried You're Not Good Enough? Here's Why You're Perfect

As conscious, intelligent, proactive people who are in control of the way we live our lives, let's aim to spend as much time as possible in a state of confidence, and as little time as possible being stressed out that we suck, worrying we're not good enough and that we're probably going to fail.

You don't just wake up one day feeling unstoppable. The exception to this rule of course, is if you are Kanye West... My greatest pain in life is that I will never be able to see myself perform live -- Kayne. What a classic he is!

But given that you and I aren't Kayne, or the Dalai Lama (yet!), how about us mere mortals just aim for confidence -- and unshakable confidence at that -- to start with.

True, there are those brilliant times where you feel like you're able to take on the world. But then a week or a day later, perhaps only hours later, someone says something, or something happens, and your superhero-like confidence has vanished.

Worse still, we can lose our confidence for seemingly NO REASON AT ALL.

Have you ever just started freaking out without even knowing why? Suddenly, you're just overwhelmed with massive self-doubt, wondering what the hell was I even thinking?

Our self-talk goes something like;

No, no no no no. I am SO stupid. Taking on this project/challenge/relationship/investment/course/commitment was a dumb idea. A really. Dumb. Idea. I have no clue WTF I'm doing... How will I pull this off?! Was I drunk when I decided to do this? Seriously. I'm such an idiot...

If this is you (hint -- this is pretty much EVERYONE at times, except Kayne and the Dalai Lama), then don't sweat it. There is still much to be happy about!

The great news starts with the fact that we ALL actually know what it feels like to be confident.
Right now, I bet you can think of a time when you felt super confident.

Didn't you just know you could do it, that you were going to succeed? I bet you can probably think of quite a few other times too!

The challenge we face, is how do you sustain that feeling of self-belief? How can you maintain that knowingness, that awesome feeling of having unshakable confidence?

More on that in a moment-- right now let's keep the good news rolling!

Rest assured, this whole process of vacillating between feeling confident then lacking confidence, on repeat, is completely and utterly normal.

As we've all heard before, as is the macrocosm, so is the microcosm (the micro being you and me, and the macro being the universe, or the bigger picture).

What do I mean?

Well, these constant, up and down shifts in our level of confidence is exactly like the changing of seasons.

If we look at nature, it takes several months for winter to turn to spring, then several more months for summer to arrive. And it doesn't just happen in a neat, linear straight line either.

The weather slowly gets warmer and warmer, then colder again, then warmer again. Even in the same day, it gets warmer and colder, then its cloudy, then its sunny etc. This could easily be seen as erratic and unpredictable. Yet regardless of these fluctuations, the seasons keep moving in one direction. From winter to spring. From spring to summer. They are perfect. They are on track. The progression and evolution remains.

You and I are exactly the same.

We do our activities and pursue our goals thinking we must only step forward. But really, just like the weather, we are all over the shop. We are confident, then we are full of doubt. We freak out that we're not good enough and that we're making too many mistakes.

But the reality is, just like nature, we are totally on track.

These fluctuations in our confidence and in our personalities are not flaws. It doesn't make us weird, or wrong. It just makes us exciting, unique, and pretty much on par with the rhythms of nature. Awesome, no?!

Having your confidence go up and down like a yo-yo is no big deal. In fact, it is completely expected.

Let's understand and accept that our confidence is going to continuously shift as we work towards a specific goal or dream, and throughout life.

That said, life is simply easier and way more fun when we trust in ourselves to handle whatever situation we are faced with.

I'm sure I don't need to tell you twice that having unshakable confidence is way more pleasurable than being stressed out, afraid that we're not good enough or lacking in some way.

So as conscious, intelligent, proactive people who are in control of the way we live our lives, let's aim to spend as much time as possible in a state of confidence, and as little time as possible being stressed out that we suck, worrying we're not good enough and that we're probably going to fail.

Now I KNOW that you already know how to be confident. But how might your life improve or expand if your confidence totally skyrocketed?

My goal is to teach people how to do just this, by building real, lasting confidence so that you can truly dare to go after the things you most want in life (stay tuned for my next article where I'll cover the first, simple step in how to have unshakable confidence).

Can you think of one thing you wish you could do, be or achieve, if only you had more confidence?

No matter how tiny, silly, or crazy you think your idea might seem, it's not at all.

I'd honestly love to try and help, so please take a moment to share just one thing you'd love to do if you had unstoppable confidence -- just pop it in the comments below!

HuffPost's GPS for the Soul app is based on two truths about human beings. First: We all have a centered place of wisdom, harmony and balance within us. Second: We're all going to veer away from that place, again and again and again. What we need is a great course-correcting mechanism -- a GPS for the Soul -- to help us find our way back to that centered place, from which everything is possible.

Because no one knows better than you what helps you de-stress and tap into that place of peace inside yourself, it's important for you to create your very own GPS guide -- a personalized collection of whatever helps you course-correct. Email us at GPS@huffingtonpost.com and we'll set you up with your very own HuffPost blogger account to share your guide on the site. If you're already a blogger, we encourage you to upload your personal guide today. We can't wait to see what you have to share.
