Wright, Adomian, BBQ: HuffPost DC Top 5 For June 22, 23, 24

TOP 5 FOR FRIDAY, JUNE 22

1. Steven Wright At Warner Theatre
Wright is a national treasure. Without Wright there's no Mitch Hedbeg. See the original slow-comic whenever you can. 8 p.m., all ages, $30 to $40

2. Swamp Keepers At Zoo Bar
Ian Walters and Co. perform marathon sets of jazzy blues or bluesy jazz or whatever sounds really, really good at the end of long week in a dark bar that makes you feel like you're not in D.C. 10 p.m., 21+, no cover

4. Funniest Fed Finals At Lincoln Theater
An amateur best of? Not something we'd usually recommend. Host Tig Notaro is what has us willing and ready to purchase a ticket. 8 p.m., all ages, $22

5. "The Source" At AFI Silver Spring
A popular gathering spot for actors, musicians and scenesters doubled as a meeting place for a cult in the 1970s on Sunset Strip. How did this film take so long to be made? Part of Silverdocs. 10:45 p.m., 17+, $13, also Saturday at 9:30 p.m.

TOP 5 FOR SATURDAY, JUNE 23
1. Family Portrait, James Adomian At Subterranean A
The last Sub A show ever will present two artists that have very little in common. Family Portrait is a New Jersey-based dance rock band meant for self-branded nerds to dance. James Adomian is a stand up, impressionist and actor known for playing Jesse The Body Ventura and other characters on the uber-good "Comedy Bang Bang" podcast and television show. The last show at the venue is staying true to the 18-month run, a place for artists that will soon be very big a chance to have a party. Case in point, Adomian will return to D.C. in August at the Howard. That's quite a big step up. See him in venues like Sub A while you still can.

In case you weren't already sold, local positive force Pat Walsh will be overseeing a BBQ for the performers and attendees. 6:30 p.m., all ages, $10 suggested donation

2. 22nd Annual Mississippi On The Mall
Mississippi tunes, Mississippi tunes, Mississippi brew for one all-inclusive price? Not a bad way to spend the first Saturday afternoon of the summer. 3 p.m., 21+, must pre-register

4. A Taste Of Two Cities, Baltimore As. DC At Westport Waterfront
Twenty Baltimore food trucks will share a lot with 20 D.C. food trucks. An excellent way to get prepared for the Nationals at Baltimore game later in the evening. 11 a.m., all ages, no cover

5. The U.S. Air Guitar Championships - D.C. Regional At 9:30 Club
Yep, these competitions still exist and they're popular enough to be at the 9:30 Club. Stop fighting it and just have a good time. 8 p.m., all ages, $20

TOP 5 FOR SUNDAY, JUNE 24

1. The 20th Annual Safeway Barbecue Battle
One of the nation's best food festivals, this two-day meat gathering includes musical performances from the Chuck Brown Tribute Band, Soul Asylum, Cowboy Mouth and more. 11 a.m., all ages, no cover, also Saturday, June 23

2. Ciné-Concert And Discussion: George Bellows -- A Musical View At National Gallery Of Art
Live scores of silent films are always interesting. If the subject matter is boring, maybe the cinematography is interesting. If that's also sub-par, the music keeps things fresh. 4 p.m., all ages, no cover

3. "STRONG!" At AFI Silver Spring
The subject matter of this documentary is a 300 pound female Olympic weightlifter that can lift almost 300 pounds. The charming protagonist Cheryl Haworth will be at this screening. Part of Silverdocs. 6:15 p.m., all ages, $13

4. Jason Nazary At Paperhaus
It's wonderful that you can see some traditional jazz any night of the week on 14th Street, but what about the more adventurous free jazz? You'll have to head to Petworth for some experimental tunes. 8 p.m., all ages, $8

5. Story League At Busboys And Poets
Story League consistently presents some of the best storytelling events in the area. Expanding to Virginia, it'll be interesting to see if turnout and quality maintains at a high level. 7 p.m., all ages, $10
