FRESH KILLS — Three days after the remains of several victims of 9/11 were uncovered amid the rubble of the Twin Towers, the city may have uncovered the human remains of a sixth newly found victim of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

"Today we had one additional potential human remain that was found," in Fresh Kills, confirmed Ellen Borakove, director of public affairs for the Medical Examiner's Office.

The city renewed its efforts on April 1 to sift through debris from the September 11 attacks in hopes of finding possible victims' remains amid the 16,000 cubic feet of material at Fresh Kills landfill on Staten Island.

Five new possible individuals' remains were uncovered Wednesday, and a sixth was found Saturday, Borakove said.

She added that 68 new remains have been recovered since the April effort began, but said she expected it could take months yet to connect identities to the remains.

On Sunday, hundreds of runners will be gathering to participate in the annual 9/11 5K Run/Walk fundraiser, the first organized race in the city since the Boston Marathon bombing attacks on Monday. Backpacks and bags have been prohibited at the event, organizers have said.
