'X-Files' Creator Hints Reboot May Confirm That Theory About Scully

"Stay tuned for Episode 6."

The truth about Scully will finally be out there.

"X-Files" creator Chris Carter tells The Huffington Post he wasn't interested in doing a "victory lap" or an "exercise in nostalgia" with the new 6-episode miniseries. Carter says fans can expect all-new stories and answers to some burning questions. The showrunner says everyone wondering about what actually happened to Scully and Mulder's son, William, will be "satisfied," and we may finally get an answer to a major theory on the former.

The theory: Scully is actually immortal.

With the "X-Files," anything is possible, and over the course of the show's run, savvy fans seemed to notice heavy hints that Scully will live on long past any series finale.

As Slate explains, the first clue that Scully is immortal comes in the Season 3 episode, "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose." In that episode, Scully asks a man who predicts how people die how she's going to kick the bucket. He tells her, "You don't."

This is "X-Files," so that's probably not even that odd, right? People say weird shiz all the time. But then, in the Season 6 episode "Tithonus," a man who can't die takes Scully's place after she's been shot. She lives and is thought to take on his immortality.

Then we come to the Season 6 episode "Monday." In this episode, Mulder and Scully keep escaping their deaths because the day keeps repeating. Many fans believe Scully is the reason why. Redditor the_piranha explains:

Her death is exactly what caused the time loop. She was not supposed to die so time reset until she survived.

There are a variety of other examples, such as Scully's ouroboros tattoo, which is an ancient symbol for immortality, but is this truth just too far out there?

We asked Carter for his take. The "X-Files" creator said, "It's certainly been suggested, but I can tell you this: Stay tuned for Episode 6."

U.F. WHOA.

Does Episode 6 finally reveal once and for all that Scully can never die? What does this mean for the "X-Files"? Could shows potentially go on forever?

Later, we asked Carter if the truth is really out there, because, like ... duh. He said, "Yes it is. Whatever you believe that truth to be."

Uh, we want the truth to be that Scully is immortal, Chris. But I guess we'll just have to wait for Episode 6.

"The X-Files" returns to Fox on Sunday, Jan. 24.
