Yahoo In Legal Hot Seat For Cooperating With Chinese Gov't

Somebody at Yahoo! has got some explaining to do.

House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Tom Lantos, D-Calif., wants to know why the Internet giant's general counsel, Michael Callahan, provided false information to Congress last year about Yahoo!'s (nasdaq: YHOO - news - people ) business practices in China, leading to the arrest and imprisonment of a Chinese dissident. Tuesday morning, the committee is hauling in Callahan and Yahoo! Chief Executive Jerry Yang to explain.

"Yahoo! has been open and forthcoming with this committee at every step of this investigative process," says Yang in his prepared remarks for Tuesday's hearing. "We have answered every question, provided every requested piece of information and worked with you in good faith."
