Yes Malia, There Are Republicans

Nobody will see a Republican for many years, but that is not a sign there are no Republicans.

Dear Editor,

I am 10 years old. Some of my father's friends say there are no more Republicans. Papa says, "If you see it in the Post, it's so." Please tell me the truth, are there Republicans?

--Malia

Malia, your father's friends are wrong. They have been soured by the bitter partisan rankling in a partisan age and the Gospel of Oprah. They don't accept anything except beating down their opponents and complaining about the cost of their clothes, while hiding as "consultant fees" the true cost of their own clothing. They know nothing except what they have learned as gladiators in the political arena with scarred minds.

All minds, Malia, whether they be Republican's or Democrat's, are scarred.

In this wondrous creation in which we exist, we are mere specks on a tiny planet, a flicker of energy, in His intellect as compared with the boundless cosmos about us, as measured by intelligence capable of understanding the beauty and greatness of our creation. You may try to figure out what school you should go to in Washington D.C., but rest assured that if it is a public school, He will not be there. When you ask God why children are shot and killed in our schools, He will answer "I don't know. They don't let me in school."

Yes, Malia, there are Republicans. They exist as certainly as taxes which oppress us, government which stifles us, and greed which controls us, and you know they abound and give to your life its greatest challenges to free thinking and peace. Alas! How dreary would be the world if there were no Republicans! It would be as dreary as if there were no Malias. There would be no trusting faith then, no Reagans, no Lincolns, and no one to make tolerable this human existence. We should have no warnings, no balance, except in the excesses of one party. The glow of faith with which democracy fills the world would vanish.

Not believe in Republicans? You might as well not believe a daughter of slaves could occupy the White House. You might get your papa to ask just who was it that freed the slaves or set up the scholarships that let him attend schools, because, of course, it was a Republican. Even if you did not see a Republican give him the chance, what would that prove?

Nobody will see a Republican for many years, but that is not a sign there are no Republicans. The most normal thing after an election is for the vanquished to release power in a way that neither you nor any man will even notice. Have you ever seen Democrats dancing on Wall Street? Of course not, but that's not proof that they are not there. The Lord and the Republicans, they sure do work in strange ways.

You tear apart the $700 million in campaign contributions and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world of internet collections which not the strongest man, not even the united strength of all prepaid credit cards who contributed $86 apiece, could tear apart. Only unemployment, poverty, despair, and yearning masses can push aside that curtain and view the exploitation that destroyed campaign finance reform from the very people who so passionately thirst for it. Is it all real? Ah, Malia, when you cross the threshold of the most powerful house in all this world, there is nothing more real.

No Republicans! I am Proud to Be an American where at least I know I'm free. Republicans live and will guide us through our troubled times. A thousand years from now, Malia, nay 10 times 10,000, no matter how low down, no good, lousy a Democrat might be, there will always be a dog and a Republican who will love him !.
