"Although the Church says 'No' to gay marriage, it still says, 'Yes' to you."
That's the overriding message of "Yes to You," a bizarre, spoken-word video that's currently making the rounds in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) blogosphere. Reportedly produced by Courage, a Pennsylvania-based Catholic ministry targeting individuals "dealing with same-sex attractions" and helping them "live chaste lives in accordance with the Roman Catholic Church's teaching on homosexuality," the "Yes to You" clip features a priest identified as Father Claude Dusty Burns, a.k.a. "Pontifex," who raps:
"Identity is a choice, a lifestyle is something you embrace/Same-sex attraction doesn't define you and can be set in place,
A movement with semantics aimed to change and sway/There needs to be clarification when using the word 'gay.'"
"Pontifex" continues:
"God loves you the way you are, and the truth can set you free/There is a difference between unchosen sexual attraction and chosen identity."
Producers wrote on YouTube that the clip's goal "is to communicate what the Church teaches about [homosexuality]."
They go on to note, "Those that would say that the Church is 'anti-gay' are either misinformed or deliberately distorting the truth to push their own agenda."
In May, Courage also organized an annual sports camp with the reported aim of helping men resist homosexual urges, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
