Yoko Ono Tweets Photo Of John Lennon's Bloody Glasses

Yoko Ono made a powerful statement about the need for gun control on Wednesday, when she tweeted a photo of John Lennon's blood-splattered glasses to her 3.6 million followers.

The tweet came on what would have been the couple's 44th wedding anniversary, had Lennon not been shot dead by Mark David Chapman more than 30 years ago.

Ono, 80, tweeted the photo a total of four times, and wrote in the series of tweets:

"31,537 people are killed by guns in the USA every year. We are turning this beautiful country into war zone. Together, let's bring back America, the green land of peace. The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience. After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him. Yoko Ono Lennon."

The longtime peace advocate also posted a link to her and Lennon's wedding photos, and wrote:

Ono, who famously campaigned for peace on her honeymoon in Amsterdam with Lennon, posted the tweets as the debate about gun control in the U.S. rages on, and the possibility for a ban on assault weapons seems far less likely to be passed.
