You Can Buy Happiness

Happiness is not bought with the same currency used to purchase a car. You cannot buy happiness with dollars. You may be happy with a new car, but continued happiness must come from within. But you can buy happiness with a different currency. The currency for happiness is intangible. It comes from within and it is never depleted.

The popular quote, "You can't buy happiness," relates to buying happiness like you would a car. It implies the more money you have, the happier you are. Similar to, the more money you have the better car you can buy. But happiness is not bought with the same currency used to purchase a car. You cannot buy happiness with dollars. You may be happy with a new car, but continued happiness must come from within.

You Can Buy Happiness because you use different currency. The currency for happiness is intangible. It comes from within and it is never depleted:

Control what you can, accept what you can't. Stop trying to control things that are out of your control. Learn to accept. Once you learn to accept and move forward, you'll experience a sense of relief that can lead to happiness.

Give to others. You'll feel good when you give to others who are less fortunate.

Volunteer for organizations you believe in. Read a mission statement or do research on different organizations, and give your time and talents to those you believe in.

Have relationships that bring out the best in you. Nurture relationships that are mutually beneficial. Steer clear of toxic relationships, and know the difference.

Spend time with friends and loved ones. Spend quality time with those you love and those with whom you enjoy yourself.

Share good news with others. Contact those who support and are happy for you, and share your good news with them.

Love what you do. Have a career path that is rewarding and full filling.

Set goals that are realistic and fit your values. Know what you want to achieve and make a plan to get there. Keep it realistic and in line with your life.

Use all five senses. Be aware of pleasing smells, sights, sounds, touch, and taste.

Be grateful. Be grateful for even the smallest things, each day.

Stop arguing. When you argue to prove your point of view, stop and think, "What if he/she is right?" Don't argue with someone who will never agree with you.

Don't compare yourself to others. The quickest way to happiness is to celebrate your qualities and never compare yourself to others.

Get plenty of rest. Make sure you get a good night's sleep. Keep your mind clear of problems as you go off to sleep each night.

Exercise often. A regular exercise regimen will make you feel energetic, strong and healthy. Pick an exercise that is enjoyable and a good fit for your life.

Eat smart. Eat food each day that will nourish your body. Include food that will give you the vitamins and minerals needed to achieve optimum health. Limit high-calorie food that is comprised of sugar or fat and is void of nutrients.

Ask, what makes me happy? Ask yourself this question weekly. Have a concrete answer and make it come to fruition.

Happiness comes in many forms. You will be happy for various reasons at different times. Look for happiness everywhere, even while facing stress or hard times.

Happiness keeps you healthy, and some scientists believe happiness leads to a longer life. Use the currency for happiness. Spend it wisely.
