Before the Hollywood trades post multiple stories about the short list of actors on tap to play young Han Solo in a new "Star Wars" standalone film, there's some list-making to do. As Movies.com editor Erik Davis joked on Twitter, "Well, first there will be dozens of '10 actors who'd make a great Han Solo.'" To which HuffPost Entertainment says [starts typing, sighs].
But why can't casting young Han Solo be fun? First of all, it's a real challenge: As Vulture's Kyle Buchanan wrote in 2011, there's a paucity of young actors in Hollywood, especially when compared to the incredible amount of talented young actresses. (If Han Solo were a woman, Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Rooney Mara, Blake Lively, Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan and Kristen Stewart would be on the list of potential stars; alas.) Second, O.G. Han Solo -- a.k.a. Harrison Ford -- was 35 years old when "Star Wars" was released in 1977, making fan favorites like Josh Holloway (43) and Nathan Fillion (41) too old to for the role. Even stars like Ryan Gosling (32) and Ryan Reynolds (36) are probably aged out of consideration.
With that in mind, here are 19 young (and young-ish) actors who could play young Han Solo in his "Star Wars" spin-off movie (should it even happen). Gnash teeth and add your fave in the comments below.
