Health is something we should all be concerned with. It's a subject that is both personal and corporate. Health, as an issue should neutralize political worldviews, ethical conundrums and cultural bias'. Why? Because, we all require a certain form of homeostasis to alive. This is why it is important to actively pursue our long-term health on a daily basis.

Supplements and life-hacks (like meditation) act as a complementary additions to a regular healthy diets and active lifestyles . Although, they are not meant to replace a diet, certain health conditions can impede some people from just relying on vitamins from food. This is why supplements play an ongoing important role in developing long-term solutions for the general population. Supplements and Life-Hacks should not be viewed as an antithesis to the medical profession or seeing a doctor, but as a complementary addition to it.

This review will investigate supplements and life hacks that encourage brain health, organ health, and overall wellness. It's important to note, as a writer, I am personally bias toward using supplements and techniques as a long-term additive toward better health.

MUSE HeadBand is one of the pill-popping alternatives to brain enhancement; it “is a powerful, compact electroencephalography (EEG) system.” It’s also a hip app-based headband dedicated to making meditation as easy and painless as possible. But that’s not all, after your meditation, the app will line out how your brain did (moment-by-moment) through easy-to-understand charts and graphs. It will let you know how long you stayed calm and give you tips on how to increase your calm streaks next time. It tracks your brainwaves and translates them as music; as you experience less calm the background sounds will get louder and louder, as you get calmer, the sounds diminish. There are scientific benefits to the long-term use of meditation.

The amazing thing about the Headband is that its been used in research as a way to discover your emotional state and what affected it. “ Researchers at the University of Memphis and IBM Watson Research Center found that by using machine learning to analyse brainwave signals from Muse, while participants watched different videos, they could determine what type of content (emotional or educational) each participant was seeing. So, if you’re looking for an alternative to ingesting supplements, MUSE is your go-to-alternative.

What about food-based supplements? Do they actually have any benefit to our overall experience of health? These questions don’t have easy answers, mainly due to the fact, that there are opposing viewpoints on both side of the issue. However, the argument remains that supplements when used wisely can enhance overall health.

Take for example, Vital Proteins.

“ Vital Proteins helps people feel better and live fuller lives through sustainably-sourced nutrition products, promoting health, fitness and natural beauty. We do that by providing nourishing collagen and promoting our production of collagen - an essential nutrient stripped from our diets by modern food-processing”. Their mission statement seeks to not just promote health, but fitness and beauty - in short, a fuller experience of life on earth.

As we consistently use resources on this planet, sustainability becomes less about a philosophy of right or wrong and a necessity for human thriving. This is why Vital Proteins is such an important supplement developer that needs more attention in the general media. It also implants collagen into most of its supplements, why is this important? According to Medical New Today, “ Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and is the substance that holds the whole body together. It is found in the bones, muscles, skin and tendons, where it forms a scaffold to provide strength and structure, “ It’s an understatement to say that collagen is an imperative element for the ongoing health of the human body. They source their products from Brazil, Hawaii, and New Zealand to find high-quality sources for their protein—based supplements.

Life Equals was born out of the reality that “ None of us eat all of the fruits, vegetables and greens we’re supposed to eat.” According to one report, three-quarters of Americans do not eat enough of their daily required fruit or vegetables. The two-ounce shot of wholesome goodness comes with “ organic pineapple, lemon, carrot, beet, cranberry, blueberry, cherry, spinach, kale, acai berry, camu camu, goji berry, elderberry and dragon fruit (with a little turmeric thrown in).”

All of these are considered superfoods in their own right, and could easily have their own article dedicated to their distinct health benefits. Although they’re humble about their philanthropy, Life Equals has provided “half a million vitamins to mothers and children around the world”, in partnership with Vitamin Angels, an organization dedicated to reducing global malnutrition. They have a variety of important supplements that include Omega-3, Women’s Multivatimins, Probiotics and Energy.

The drink supplement goes well with shakes and is very convenient for the road and is non-GMO. What does that mean? “ Non-GMO means non-genetically modified organisms. GMOs (genetically modified organisms), are novel organisms created in a laboratory using genetic modification/engineering techniques. Scientists and consumer and environmental groups have cited many health and environmental risks with foods containing GMOs. “ In a world where fast-food relies upon preservatives and other chemicals, this is a breath of fresh-air.

The industry powerhouse Swanson Vitamins has been both a household and a storefront name since 1969. Everything you could think of in relationship to health supplements, they have. They are dedicated to ‘corporate responsibility’ to the national and international community they serve. They create nature-based supplements from ethical sources. Unlike many other supplement online shops, they offer product refills, which is quite a perk and a necessary convenience for those who have longer-term health concerns. From amino acids to anti-ageing, from B-vitamins to children’s health, from A to Z, Swanson has everything covered in their shop. Their blog is filled amazing health advice, the health benefits of superfoods, food and nutrition, health and beauty and even great recipe ideas! They are dedicated to the whole subject of wellness.

One thing we know for sure is that health is something we all have or don’t have. It’s also something we all have the ability to participate in, developing long-term strategies to increase and enhance our experience of being human. Supplements, when used well and wisely can help us on the journey to discovering a healthier version of ourselves.

**Although this is a review that offers alternatives to popular medicine, this is not to claim any of these are in fact medicines, however this does not minimize their efficacy as alternatives.
