Critics, including the Parkland shooting survivors and March For Our Lives activists, say this is a hypocritical move given the organizations “good guy with a gun” philosophy.
“We want to represent the minorities that are not in the media ― the Latinos, African-Americans, Asians. Our voices are very powerful.”
In the wake of Parkland, citizens are demonstrating to demand more legislative reforms from Congress on guns.
"We are just students who want to be safe in our schools," said a 17-year-old organizer of one of the forums.
“I truly am sorry. I did not mean to hurt anyone or cause any harm," said Jesse Hughes, who sparked outrage with inflammatory comments about the Parkland teens.
The Parkland students have a lot of work ahead to deliver on the vision they laid out on Saturday. Other activists have advice for how they can get it done.
