President Trump's administration order had originally set TikTok to be banned from app stores in the U.S. by midnight on Monday.
The American Civil Liberties Union argued that the administration was splitting families over dubious allegations and minor transgressions including traffic offenses.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump tried to dismiss growing concerns about his alleged misconduct and accusations his administration is engaged in a cover-up.
The former secretary of state said James Mattis' resignation is "a continuation of a crisis that too many people have been too content to live with."
