Most domestic lounges are so terrible that it's hard for me to feign any enthusiasm for them these days. Even the freebies, from the Milanos to the lamps, aren't worth it in my opinion. And who the hell needs a lamp for their flight?
As a travel writer, I don't fly first class, or even business for that matter. I pay for my fares anywhere. I pay for hotels, food, anything a tourist would pay for. But loved my first class fight, and I recommend it if you can spare the dough.
Airport lounges are often touted as the ultimate relaxation area, a place where all the goodies are free and unlimited, whether that's the Wi-Fi, the wine or both. Unfortunately, there are a few barriers to entry otherwise they couldn't otherwise retain their allure and mystique.
