And remember God loves you, and is for your highest good. Keep joy, love, and hope in your heart. God can make all things new and beautiful, and better than they were before, inlaid with gold that shimmers in the sun.
What this world has become is something so undefinable and sometimes scary that I don't think anyone would make it without the belief in something bigger than themselves and people in general.
When we talk to people about our faith and why they should want a relationship with God, we should not only talk about salvation but about how God can meet their self-interest much like Jesus with many of the people He encountered.
I realize that when I use the word God, there's a good chance I'm stepping on all kinds of land mines. Is there a more volatile word loaded down with more history, assumptions and expectations than that tired, old, relevant, electrically charged, provocative, fresh, antiquated yet ubiquitous as ever word God?
Years ago, I believed in a lot of things like heaven and God. And I was told that to really believe in them, I had to eliminate any kind of doubt. The problem was I'd study the Bible and doubts would creep in.
Whereas I do recognize the need in people to believe in things that give them comfort, I can't help but register many of these things as delusional. It's not meant to be a putdown; it's just an observation on my part.
