The Microsoft mogul gave $5 billion to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to finance work in global health, development, policy and advocacy, and U.S. education.
The Microsoft co-founder, who first appeared on the Forbes 400 list in 1986, is currently worth an estimated $100 billion.
The billionaire philanthropist said he will isolate until he is again healthy.
Gates’ private office said “these claims are false, recycled rumors from sources who have no direct knowledge, and in some cases have significant conflicts of interest.”
The announcement comes weeks after Bill and Melinda Gates announced that they were divorcing after 27 years of marriage.
"I would have expected them to do better," said the Microsoft co-founder, who has pledged hundreds of millions of dollars to coronavirus vaccine research.
