When a woman lost 172 pounds, she was thrilled to find out Shape Magazine wanted to profile her. But not so thrilled when they turned down her photos. The editors were fine with Brooke Birmingham's before photo showing her overweight, it was the after photo, showing what a body really looks like after extreme weight loss, that she says the healthy lifestyle magazine didn't want to see.
I spent MANY years hating and hiding a body I was ashamed of because it wasn't society's ideal of beautiful. Being asked to send a photo of myself with a shirt on made me feel like I again should be ashamed of my body.
