I stumbled into fundamentalism by making a common assumption: I'd become a Christian because I wanted to know and follow the Truth (the capital "T" is intentional here and not conventional), and being a fundamentalist merely meant adhering to the "fundamentals" of faith.
Dr. Paul Church tried to pretend his concerns were "medical" in nature because the gay "lifestyle" is deadly. Oddly, he accompanied this with quotes from the Bible -- hardly a source of medical wisdom.
The world is becoming more and more globalized with multiple cultures crossing paths like never before. That trend is not going anywhere, it is on the rise. How we relate with each other and how we raise each other in this globalized world is the question
Any U.S. citizen who believes there is not a serious problem in the U.S. Armed Forces with fundamentalist, evangelical Christianity, must be, as I often remark to my students when I describe some particularly egregious and otherwise inexplicable failing, "smoking some good stuff."
If we insist on requiring Muslims to disavow Islamist violence, it's fair also to ask conservative Americans to be honest and self-critical about the connections between our country's poisonous environment and domestic extremist violence.
