The real story is not that the world has left the church. It is the church that has left the world.
Some have probably done hurtful things, especially as younger leaders in the difficult process of learning and developing. But there is a tangible sense of humility in light of all the imperfections of leading in the church.
It's the age-old prosperity gospel bait and switch. And really, it's "We wanna be the 1 percent!" Christianity, with the cheering crowd ironically widening the economic gap between themselves and their leaders even as they strive to obtain their celebrity status.
There is no shortage of important questions about religion. Lots of people will weigh in on these questions--but who should we actually believe?
Our country is in the midst of a clash between two competing moral visions, between those who believe in the common good, and those who believe individual good is the only good. It's time our leaders in Washington listen to someone other then themselves.
