It ALL starts at home, period. I grew up playing youth sports in the 1980s, high school sports in the early 90s (born in 1976). I learned very early on from my parents that the coach was always right. This isn't true today.
Parents, your kids will be fine if they don't start -- as long as you're fine! For the first time my son didn't start today, and I couldn't have been prouder. He was the only one on the bench standing and cheering for his teammates.

The camaraderie, the devotion to team work and touchdowns, the knee they take when a man is down. My perspective in regards to this sport has shifted radically in the past few years. Football helmets clanking still sends a chill down my spine, though.
Why is the number so high? In the realm of sports, there are many different voices that influence young people--parents, coaches, health care providers, school professionals, teammates, and even spectators.
