She served less than a year behind bars after being convicted of manslaughter for urging her suicidal boyfriend to kill himself.
Carter had defended that text messages she sent encouraging her boyfriend to kill himself were protected by the First Amendment.
Carter was 17 when she convinced Conrad Roy III to stay in his car as it filled with carbon monoxide.
"You always say you're gonna do it but you never do," she texted her boyfriend before his suicide. "I just want to make sure tonight is the real thing."
She was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2017 after sending her suicidal boyfriend a barrage of text messages urging him to kill himself.
Carter, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2017 in the death of Conrad Roy, had been allowed to remain free amid her appeal.
