CARE was a charity created to feed the hungry in Europe. People in the United States would buy CARE packages of food and they would be delivered to a hungry family overseas. The von Trapp family were among those who helped by purchasing these life-saving parcels.

The war in Syria has caused a hunger emergency in the Middle East. On Thanksgiving Eve it was announced that the U.S. Food for Peace program is donating US $125 million to feed the war victims. The donation will go to the UN World Food Programme (WFP), which is feeding over four million Syrians inside the war-torn country.
It will take months to contain the virus according to estimates. During that time hunger could very well escalate.
