The shooting stemmed from a dispute at the get-together, which was being held in honor of a slain community member.
“These were both random and targeted shootings on our streets,” said Fred Waller, Chief of the Patrol Division of the Chicago Police Department.
Police battled protesters after an officer shot a man suspected of being armed. Four people were arrested and several officers reportedly were hurt.
