Psy's "Gangnam Style" took the world by storm two years ago. His song broke the Guinness World Record to become the first video to reach a billion views. Soon his song and dance style became a global phenomenon.

Western music comes with Western privilege and, like white privilege, this type of agency does not need to crossover to the margins because Western pop stars are already idolized the world over.

Arab culture, and certainly Emirati more specifically, is rich and encompasses music, dance, food and traditional crafts. However, we -- as Arabs -- have a long way to go before this can be developed and exported.

Earlier this week, international sensation Psy debuted his latest release, "Hangover," featuring rapper Snoop Dogg (er... Lion) on his oft-visited YouTube channel. Responses to the video have been mixed.
