High school can evoke bad memories, of cliques and hormone-infused drama, of memorizing World War I dates, of diagramming sentences and conjugating Latin verbs and struggling through Calculus. Of being plagued by self-doubt and wanting desperately to fit in.

It’s nothing against my fellow classmates. I was simply trying to hide.

It's almost time for reunion parties. There is excitement and fear for anyone whose time it is to reunite with former classmates. My 20-year High School Reunion is the best reunion story out there.

As a planning committee, we still have many details left to finalize for our 20th reunion (namely, all of them). But the feedback I have received so far has been anticipation and excitement.

All in all, it was a fine evening. I'm glad I hold a small piece of responsibility for putting it together. But just a heads up: In 30 years there's no way in hell I'm making 400 laminated badges. That's on you, Malibu!

On reunion day, the front row of kneelers/sitters was limited to those of any size who would be able to get down on the floor, and, more importantly, be then able to get up without the aid of a harness and pulley system.

In my hometown of Wendell, Idaho, the annual combined class reunion includes graduates from the past 60 years. All ages come together to reminisce, shake their heads at the rambunctious youngsters, and moan about the loss of the playground equipment.

I graduated from high school in 1950. Yes, that was 65 years ago. I am 82 years old. Some readers are probably thinking that I am really old, while others are chuckling and thinking, 'You have a ways to go."

I thought I'd share a few coping mechanisms that worked for me, transforming a fright night into a pleasant party (if you're a social butterfly or an accomplished salesperson, these suggestions probably seem like second nature to you).
