About 100 residents had to evacuate again as lava reached the streets of the fishing town of Grindavík.
More than 3,000 people have evacuated from a fishing village on the country’s Reykjanes Peninsula.
The country said it had taken preventative measures as Iceland was “no stranger to volcanic activity.”
Grindavik, Iceland is being evacuated days after the Blue Lagoon geothermal resort was forced to close due to small earthquakes in the area.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office urged people not to go near the Fagradalsfjall volcano.
The 22-year-old was on the sightseeing flight to create commercial content for the Belgian fashion brand Suspicious Antwerp.
"Worker wellbeing dramatically increased across a range of indicators, from perceived stress and burnout to health and work-life balance."
Dadi Freyr, lead singer for Icelandic band Dadi og Gagnamagnid, said group members “have all been extremely careful the whole trip, so this comes as a huge surprise.”
Eruption 20 miles from capital not currently considered a threat because it's in an isolated valley.
