Kirby and other White House officials have defended the administration's recent decision to send Ukraine the controversial bombs.
"The United States had nothing to do with this,” said John Kirby, the National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications.
American officials say the drone was flying in international airspace when a Russian fighter jet struck one of its propellers.
The U.S. Navy sailed two warships through the Taiwan Strait, at a time when tensions have kept the waterway particularly busy.
“President Zelenskyy, he gets to determine how victory is decided and when and on what terms,” Kirby told "Fox News Sunday."
“What this is about is reassurance to our NATO allies," Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said Monday, adding that no troops are intended for deployment to Ukraine itself.
“We took advantage of that to make sure we had the maximum leverage possible to get our people out and get them out safely.”
