A few hours ago, I was at the hospital in Pretoria, the hospital where Nelson Mandela is fighting his last battle. Together with colleagues and friends of ActionAid, together with dozens, even hundreds of people who come and go at all hours. It is not voyeuristic. It is a respectful homage to one of the great leaders of our time.
South Africa's president on Monday said a critically ill Nelson Mandela was "asleep" when he visited the 94-year-old at the hospital, and he urged the country to pray for Mandela, describing him as the "father of democracy" who made extraordinary sacrifices on behalf of his people.
Mandela has a history of lung problems dating back to when he contracted tuberculosis as a political prisoner. He spent 27
