The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gave out some well-deserved nods, but not without raising eyebrows. Here are some of the Oscar nominations making headlines.

Last year -- Oct. 21 to be exact -- hordes of fanboys celebrated Back to the Future Day, which was the date in which Marty McFly traveled to save his children in Back to the Future Part II. Well, fittingly, the cinematic year of 2015 was all about going back in time.

Some years were quieter celebrations, but just as ceremonial. Even watching them on my own, I bowed to the sense of occasion. I lined up my time-honored snacks, burrowed under my favorite quilt and glued myself to the proceedings, shouting at the screen the entire time.
