WHAT'S HAPPENING
For the past 3,000 Years, Jews, around the world, blow the shofar to celebrate the coming of the new year. The shofar, the simplest and most ancient musical instrument, made of a ram horn, produces the most basic sounds emanating from the beginning of time.
What this time signified to me, more than anything, was the separation of the young and carefree from the old and sad. We were the "us," chasing each other through the poorly tended grass, laughing.
Let's make this Rosh Hashanah, and this Shmitah, the year when all of that changes. Let's get our institutions and portfolios to divest from Big Oil. Let's get our synagogues and communities to stand up for the Earth.
