I am feeling at home as a Muslim of Irish-Catholic descent.
On the one hand, many would argue that with the first black president in office, it is Martin's dream that has been realized. Yet, on the other hand, with endless wars abroad, increasing police brutality at home, and a society more divided than ever, it is safe to say that Malcolm's critique of -- and challenge to -- America has never been more urgent.

What needs to be continually taught is that Malcolm X was a man who, through a mere 39 years, evolved intellectually and spiritually in a manner that many do not manage to in a lifetime.
I'm not certain if I was the first music writer to attempt to abbreviate New Kids On The Block to NKOTB. But I'm pretty damn sure I was the first to ever publicly dub the Kids' young female fan base as being "Blockheads."
