Actress, activist and all around bad ass Laverne Cox just made history this morning when she was nominated for an Emmy for
Jorgensen, being one of the first trans women to become publicly known, conformed completely to the gender norms of her time, while Jan Morris was able to define her own womanhood and femaleness to a much greater degree than Jorgensen could or would have.
It's up to trans* people to be proactive and make certain that our individual and collective voices are heard loud and clear by the public and the media, and that we continue to be written into the record of queer history.
