As I think back to my own history, I often wonder if I was introduced to James Baldwin's Giovanni's Room in my high school English class if, or how, my whole life would be different. I also think about how far we've come, as well as how desperately far we need to go.
How one school is working to educate students about the "increasingly visible minority."
For me, a transgender writer and thinker, this represents the core gain of a distinctly trans field of study: its ability to center trans people as active agents in defining their worldviews, rather than as the objects of others' research or criticism.
