The reality is that there has never been a recorded case of abuse or abduction by a registered sex offender on Halloween. Most offenders already comply with strict parole and registration requirements, and many are constantly tracked with GPS monitors.

While the George Zimmerman trial should be a call for national reflection over how Stand Your Ground laws work out in reality, the risk is that yet again, it will turn into just another story about what happens in Florida.

Reilly's implication that we want prisoners to continue to mete out street justice while locked up sends a mixed message of the worst kind. Let's not set these men up for failure by implying that violence is acceptable, expected, and that they're good for nothing else.
