Research shows when you pursue happiness, it leads not only to happiness itself, but also to success (and not the other way around). Furthermore, cultivating a positive mindset boosts well-being and improves creativity. In fact, happiness isn’t believing we don’t have to change; it is realizing that we can. (HappinessAdvantage)
Exercise
You probably heard exercising releases hormones (called endorphins) that boosts your mood. Not only that, but it improves your motivation, and reduces stress and anxiety. One study proved that exercise is just as helpful as anti-depressants. (TreatmentForDepression)
In short, physical activity isn’t only a powerful mood lifter, but it’s a long-lasting one. So, bike, hula hoop, jump rope, play, stretch, run, walk, — it doesn’t matter, just get moving.
Look Forward to Something.
Interestingly, even thinking about watching your favorite TV show raises your endorphin levels by 27%. Often, the most enjoyable part of an activity is looking forward to it. For example, if you don’t time for a vacation right now, or dinner with friends, schedule it on your calendar. With this in mine, whenever you need a boost of happiness, remind yourself about it. Indeed, anticipating future rewards boosts your brain’s pleasure centers as much as the actual reward.
Spend Money (but Not on Stuff).
Finally, money CAN buy happiness, but only if you use it to DO things instead of BUY things. For example, spend money on an experience, especially with others (prosocial spending). Specifically, join a gym or get together for coffee. Significantly, you experience more meaningful, lasting, positive emotions than those from acquiring material objects. (LuxuryFever)
