Former Disney Star Reveals The Reason She's Publicly Changing Her Name

“I just felt like it was time for people to know me for me," the "High School Musical" star said.

Disney Channel alum Ashley Tisdale is reintroducing herself as Ashley French.

“I’ve been Ashley French for so long at home, but I really never changed publicly because everybody knows me as Ashley Tisdale.” the actor said in a TikTok video posted on Nov. 17. “I just felt like it was time for people to know me for me, and not a character or like a celebrity.”

The actor, now 40, reflected on how she’s shared “so much of her life on social media” and how she’s navigating the ever-changing social media climate.

“We should be honest, like, at this point. You don’t know what’s real, what’s a bot, and everyone has something to say and it might not be positive,” she said. “Not that I want to block out the negativity, but I feel like in order to protect my peace I didn’t want to keep sharing in that way.”

French is not a stranger to sharing her thoughts online. In October, the actor spoke out about on body trends.

“A few years ago, almost nobody in LA would admit to using Ozempic,” French wrote. “It was all very mysterious and nobody was super-open about it,” she continued.

“To be clear: I have absolutely ZERO judgment toward anyone using Ozempic or other similar medications. Zero,” she added.
