Who needs Intel, Microsoft or even AMD? Not Lenovo, who is hitching its star to Linux and Qualcomm's new Snapdragon line of processors.
Lenovo's new Skylight "smartbook", revealed for the first time at CES 2010, delivers a unique sub 2 pound form factor, and promises 10 hours of battery life.
Designed to be always connected, it features a 10" screen, flash-based storage, and both WiFi and GSM-based 3G connectivity. It runs a special version of Linux developed by Lenovo, and is the first system shown that uses the new Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm.
Initially offered by AT&T at a subsidized price in the US, the unsubsidized price will be $500, and it will be available in March or April of 2010.
