Every year, the Social Security Administration releases the list of the most popular baby names in the U.S. At the same time, the agency also shares the state-by-state data showing the top name in each of the 50 states.

As the latest breakdown shows, just because a name is the top pick in the country as a whole doesn’t mean it reigns supreme in each state. Indeed, Charlotte ― the No. 3 pick for girls in the U.S. in 2024 ― took the top spot in 18 states, plus Washington, D.C.

But Emma, which was the second-most popular pick overall, only took the top spot in Wyoming. Meanwhile, the No. 1 name ― Olivia ― was the favorite in 17 states. The most notable outlier, however, was Lainey, the most popular name in Montana but No. 38 in the U.S.

Looking at the trends for boys, the most popular name in the U.S. overall, Liam, was also the top choice in 23 states. But Noah (No. 2) only took the top spot in six states, while Oliver (No. 3) dominated in 18.

Take a look at the maps below to find out which names are the most popular picks for baby boys and girls in your state.
