A woman has been shot dead and her suspected killer involved in a car crash and carjacking in Melbourne overnight.
It is understood the woman, a 42-year-old mother of two, was found with fatal gunshot wounds at Sunshine Hospital in St Albans on Thursday night.
Police believe she was shot at a townhouse in Sunshine North before her partner loaded her into a car and drove her the short distance to hospital, where she later died.
After dumping her at the hospital, it's alleged the man, 33, crashed his car before hijacking another vehicle.
Police later pulled over the stolen car and arrested the man.
It was too early to say if the woman was accidentally shot.
"When innocent members of the public are hurt when a person appears to be fleeing, that is obviously an aspect," said Detective Inspector Mick Hughes.
"We are not looking for anyone. The person of interest is the person at the house."
It has been reported three separate cars were involved in incidents in the area, with at least one allegedly involved in a carjacking.
Another involved a ute flipping onto its roof, shutting down roads in the area.
Police are urging anyone with information who witnessed any collisions in the area to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
