Alan Thicke, Tanya Thicke On 'Unusually Thicke' And Returning To TV (VIDEO)

WATCH: So, Alan Thicke, About The Name Of Your Show...
|

Most of the TV-viewing public knows Canadian actor Alan Thicke as Dr. Seaver from "Growing Pains." As of late, he's come to be known as "Robin Thicke's father." Rest assured, though, that Thicke is the same as he's always been: jovial, friendly and wise-cracking.

"Unusually Thicke," the unfortunately titled hybrid sitcom/reality show, follows the adventures of Thicke and his third wife, Tanya Callau Thicke, as they navigate the waters of semi-empty-nesting. At the end of the premiere episode, Tanya expresses her desire for children, which is bound to be a series-long issue.

HuffPost Canada TV spoke with Thicke and his wife about why they chose "Unusually Thicke" as the show title, what sorts of things are off-limits, and how many celebrity cameos (read: a lot) we can expect on the show.

(Watch video interview, above.)

"Unusually Thicke" premieres on Slice on Wednesday, April 16 at 10 p.m. ET. It airs on TVGN in the U.S., premiering the same night.

Some Of The Worst TV Show Titles
"The Mob Doctor" (Fox)(01 of06)

If the show's premiere ratings are any indication, viewers were as unimpressed with this medical/crime drama's name as we were. Sadly, it's the first of many uninspiring titles this season ... Airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET. (credit:Fox)
"Partners" (CBS)(02 of06)

They're business partners who also have romantic partners! (This show has so many layers!) The bland title is far from the most offensive thing about this shrill and repetitive odd-couple sitcom, and the cast deserves better.Premieres Monday, September 24 at 8:30 p.m. ET. (credit:CBS)
"The Neighbors" (ABC)(03 of06)
Open Image Modal
Aside from potentially being confused with a long-running Australian soap opera, this generically-titled alien comedy has a lot of other problems to overcome, and its name isn't even at the top of the list.Premieres Wednesday, September 26 at 9:30 p.m. ET. (credit:ABC)
"Chicago Fire" (NBC)(04 of06)

Because "Chicago Firemen" would've been too on the nose. A cursory Google search reveals that the NBC drama has to compete with a soccer team, Chicago's actual fire department, a pizza joint and the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. At least the cast is attractive ...Premieres Wednesday, October 10 at 10 p.m. ET. (credit:NBC)
"How to Live with Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life)" (ABC)(05 of06)

This otherwise inoffensive family comedy starring Sarah Chalke certainly has the most unwieldy title to type and say, and it's equally tedious to abbreviate: "HTLWYPFTROYL." We can't see it trending on Twitter any time soon. Premieres midseason. (credit:ABC)
"Red Widow" (ABC)(06 of06)

The lead character's not a spider, but she is a widow! Plus, there are Russian mob connections, and we're guessing she'll be killing plenty of people, so there are connotations galore in the title of this ponderous mob drama. (We guess it could've been worse -- "Mob Widow," anyone?)Premieres midseason. (credit:ABC)
