With meteorologists predicting more severe weather than usual for Alberta this summer, it doesn't hurt to be prepared in case of an emergency.
Last summer in southern Alberta brought mighty wind storms, violent hail and plenty of flooding - storms that are often wildly unpredictable and fast moving.
Len MacCharles, deputy chief of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency, told the Calgary Herald that Albertans need to be better prepared for such storms.
Tornadoes pose a serious risk in much of southern and central Alberta and this summer's forecast of warmer temperatures means some volatile weather systems could form throughout June, July and August. According to Environment Canada, the province confirms an average of 10 twisters per summer.
In case of emergency, the Canadian Red Cross recommends having a 72-hour emergency kit with the following items in the house and car, in case disaster strikes.
