Alberta Home Buyers Pick This More Than Other Canadians

Never have buyers been more selective when looking for a home, and Albertans are no exception.

A recent Century 21 study found Albertans have some unique preferences over other Canadians when it comes to home shopping.

More than 51 per cent of Albertans said their first impression of a home is most impacted by the layout of the house — the highest in the nation.

In fact, 32 per cent say they would purchase a home with good layout over a home with a convenient location. Other deciding factors include a preferred community (26 per cent) or the commuting distance (10 per cent).

Twenty-eight per cent of Albertans say they are more likely to purchase a home that had updated finishings, including countertops, flooring and mouldings, which is also the highest in the nation.

All this can only mean good things for Alberta's home builders, who are filling new communities with comtemporary homes, many of which include open floor plans and modern finishings. A recent study by BMO noted that Alberta could soon be putting up more homes than Quebec and Atlantic Canada combined.
