A student at the University of British Columbia will spend his weekends in jail for his role in the 2011 Stanley Cup riot.

Alexander Peepre, 21, was sentenced to 60 days in jail but he will only have to serve on weekends so that he can continue to pursue a political science degree from UBC, the Province reported.

Peepre will spend the next 20 weekends in jail, from 7 p.m. Fridays until 5 p.m. Sundays.

But that's not all. Peepre has also been ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution to the owner of a GMC truck after he helped flip it during the riot that followed the Canucks' loss to the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup Final, the Vancouver Sun reported.

Peepre's legal troubles may not be over. During the riot he allegedly assaulted Good Samaritan Cameron Brown while he was already knocked to the ground, 24 Hours Vancouver reported.

Brown attended the hearing with the intention of serving Peepre with notice of a civil suit.

Brown seeks $5,000 to compensate for pain and suffering and an additional $5,000 to repair a camera that was damaged that night. Peepre was taken to court detention before he could be served.
