An Alberta mail man has been charged in connection to the theft of cell phones, laptops, and other goods that had gone missing from the mail.
Lac La Biche RCMP say 62-year-old Brian Sopel was a self contractor to Canada Post and delivered mail to numerous rural post offices in northern Alberta.
A search warrant was executed at his house, where 21 new cell phones, laptops, a tablet, Military Veteran paraphernalia, clothing, other consumer goods, and storage containers owned by Canada Post were seized, according to RCMP.
Sopel has been charged with theft of mail and possession of articles stolen from the mail.
He was arrested on Wednesday and is scheduled to appear in court on March 3.
The investigation was conducted in partnership with postal inspectors from Canada Post.
