Ken Pagan has been charged with mischief in a beer-tossing incident during the wild card game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday.

Pagan, a Postmedia sports journalist, turned himself in to police on Thursday night, and is expected to appear in court on Nov. 24, said a news release from the Toronto Police Service.

On Wednesday, the police circulated a photo of the man they believed was responsible for throwing a beer can that landed on the field near Orioles left-fielder Hyun Soo Kim during play in the seventh inning.

Pagan, 41, later came forward to police and identified himself as the person in the photo.

He told The Toronto Sun in an interview that he was drinking from a cup, suggesting that police had the wrong person.

While Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu said police were "confident" they had identified the correct suspect, social media speculation intensified with analysis of images and videos of the game.

The Blue Jays apologized to the Orioles following the incident, and urged fans to show a "level of respect and responsibility." Major League Baseball also promised to heighten security at games.
