Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince George honoured the anniversary of Princess Diana’s death with a trip to visit her family, according to a Daily Express report.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly took their newborn son to see Diana’s eldest sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, and her family in Stoke Rochford in England over the weekend. The royal couple and six-week-old son were seen boarding a helicopter not far from her home, the British paper said.

Princess Di died in a car crash in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997. Her boyfriend Dodi Fayed and their driver Henri Paul were also killed.

William opened up about his mother's death in 2009 after becoming the Royal Patron of the Child Bereavement Charity, which Diana helped launch in 1994.

“What my mother recognized then, and what I understand now, is that losing a close family member is one of the hardest experiences anyone can endure,” he said in a speech. “Never being able to say the word ‘Mummy’ again in your life sounds like a small thing. However, for many, including me, it’s now really just a word – hollow and evoking only memories.”

He is “particularly close” to his aunt Sarah, the Daily Express said, and William and Harry spent their childhoods playing with their Spencer cousins.

Diana’s death recently made headlines again following a claim that British special forces were involved. A 2008 inquest found Princess Diana and Fayed were unlawfully killed due to the “grossly negligent” driving of their car and those following it.
